A Simple Trick My 7-Year-Old and I Use to End Arguments.
Ever wished you could press “undo” on an argument with your child? My seven-year-old daughter and I discovered a surprising trick that instantly resets our moods—and saves our day.
It all started with those little frustrations that blow up out of nowhere: she’s upset because I asked her to turn off the TV, I’m annoyed because it’s late and I am tired, and suddenly we’re in a downward spiral of snappy remarks. We both know the anger isn’t deep. It’s just the heat of the moment and our bruised egos makes us not want to concede.
That’s when we agreed to create a “Reset” button. The deal is simple: if one of us says “Shall we Reset?” it’s a cue to stop the argument and return to our friendly, loving selves—no grudges, no leftover tension, no rehashing what was said.
Amazingly, this simple agreement has worked like magic for more than a year now. We both appreciate having an “out” to drop the negativity and move on. It gives us a clear path back to calm, especially when emotions are running high.
So the next time you find yourself in a downward spiral with your child, try asking “Shall we hit Reset?” You might be surprised by how quickly it breaks the cycle and lets you both return to the happy place you’d rather be.
